The Lavender Menace was a group of lesbian feminists formed in 1970 to protest their exclusion from the feminist movement. The term was originally used by Betty Friedan when she claimed lesbians were a threat to women's liberation, branding them as the Lavender Menaces.
Activists reclaimed these words and famously wore “Lavender Menace” T-shirts while protesting at the Second Congress to Unite Women, which ultimately led to the progression of lesbian inclusion within feminist activism.
